Every Cybertruck Leaves the Mill With Its Own Fingerprint. We Refine It to a Measurable, Mirror-Like Light Reflective Finish Without Erasing It.
Sand-free polishing refinement for the Cybertruck’s cold-worked stainless-steel exoskeleton, using the proprietary EXQUISITEMAD® polishing system. Measured results. Nationwide & International mobile service for enterprise fleets and verified ultra-high-net-worth clients.
A Truck Without Paint Needs a Different Discipline
A Cybertruck has no paint and no clear coat. The steel is the finish. Whatever is cut away comes off the truck itself, and the factory surface never comes back.
That’s why EXQUISITEMAD® does not sand or resurface. We bring more than a decade of detailing, paint, metal, aluminum and stainless-steel refinement across aviation, industrial tankers, fire apparatus and luxury assets to one question: how far can bare, work-hardened stainless go toward a mirror without grinding away the surface the factory gave it?
The Surface Signature
Every Cybertruck panel carries a record of how it was made. We call it the surface signature: the DNA and blueprint of that individual truck. Sanding erases it and replaces it with the same scratch pattern on every vehicle. We refine the reflection and keep the record.
Mill and roll marks. Directional lines pressed into the steel as it passed through the rolls under enormous force.
Directional texture. The grain of the mill finish, running in the rolling direction. Our refinement sequence is built around each panel’s directional texture instead of replacing it with a new sanding pattern.
Divots. Small depressions from rolling, forming and handling. Sanding lowers the surrounding steel to chase them out. We leave them in place, bright and defined.
Factory finishing marks. Patterns left by the production line. On a dull surface they read as haze. Under a mirror they read as detail.
Finishing valleys. Shallow channels left by manufacturing, finishing and handling. We refine them so they catch light like engraved lines.
The reflection gets stronger and the character becomes more pronounced. No two finished trucks look alike, because no two started alike.
The Steel
Tesla’s published patent application WO 2023/023083 describes an ultra-hard cold-worked stainless alloy developed for uncoated vehicle exteriors. It is a low-carbon austenitic stainless containing chromium, nickel, manganese, molybdenum and nitrogen.
The patent describes cold rolling to a thickness reduction of 30% or more, which converts part of the steel’s structure into strain-induced martensite. Disclosed embodiments reach approximately 420–500 HV, with yield strength exceeding 1,100 MPa. The patent also describes the steel becoming more ferromagnetic as cold work and martensite content increase.
In Tesla’s testing, the alloy bent further than Type 301 stainless before failing. In its mill-produced, cold-worked form, it showed pitting resistance in 3% salt solution in line with 304 and 316L.
Steel this hard does not forgive shortcuts. There is nothing sacrificial on top of it.
Conceptual microscopic illustration of EXQUISITEMAD® stainless-steel surface refinement—not an actual micrograph and not to scale. Our proprietary polishing system progressively refines microscopic surface peaks to reduce diffuse light scatter and increase specular reflection while retaining deeper valleys, directional mill texture and existing factory topography. This is preservation-focused detailing—not sanding, panel resurfacing, bodywork or structural alteration.
How a Mirror – Like Surface Happens Without Sanding
Under magnification, every mill-finished surface is a landscape of microscopic peaks and valleys. The peaks scatter light in every direction, which is why mill-finish stainless looks soft and gray.
Sanding works at the scale of the grit. It creates a replacement surface by cutting into the peak-and-valley structure itself, and the mill character goes with it. The conventional No. 8 mirror finish described in ASTM A480 is made this way, with progressively finer abrasives followed by buffing. It is a new surface, not the original one.
EXQUISITEMAD® works at the scale of the peaks. Our proprietary liquid and paste compounds progressively refine the microscopic high points so more light returns in a single direction, producing a mirror-like reflection. The deeper valleys, rolling lines and mill texture stay intact.
Any polishing can locally disturb stainless steel’s nanometer-thin passive oxide film, which begins re-forming on clean stainless exposed to air. Factory topography removed by sanding never re-forms.
Reflection Is Measured. Quantify the amount of light reflected from the surface in GU.
20° Is Our Primary Benchmark
We measure gloss at 20°, 60° and 85°. The 20° reading is our primary benchmark for the finished mirror-like surface, and 60° and 85° are recorded as supporting data.
Before, During and After
- Before: Baseline readings document the original surface.
- During: In-process readings monitor the surface and guide the polishing sequence.
- After: Final readings document the reflection achieved.
The gloss meter is calibrated on camera before every project. Readings are taken at the same marked locations on the same panels, with the meter in the same position and orientation each time, so the before, during and after numbers compare directly.
Why We Measure Gloss, Not DOI
Gloss measures the strength of the reflection, which is what our process develops. Distinctness of image (DOI), meaning how sharp a reflected image appears, depends largely on the panel’s existing waviness, mill texture divots, finishing marks, wear and history. Raising it substantially would mean leveling the steel and erasing the surface character we preserve.
We measure the strength of the reflection we develop. We preserve the surface characteristics that determine how that reflection is rendered.

Scope
This is optical surface refinement. It is not bodywork, dent repair, panel leveling, resurfacing or restoration. Existing scratches, dents, pitting and prior sanding may remain visible, and a stronger reflection can make them more noticeable. We document every panel’s condition before work begins and do not promise a flawless or identical result on every truck.
To request an assessment, send your name or organization, vehicle year and location, photos of every exterior panel, any prior polishing or sanding history, and your target completion date.
